Interxion formally launches second data center in Dublin

Following its announcement of a purchase of a green-field site near London on Wednesday, European colocation data center provider Interxion announced the formal opening of its new facility in Dublin. This is the company’s second data center in the Irish city.
The €12-million facility, Interxion’s 27th, adds about 26,000 square feet of new data center space to the Dublin market and brings the provider’s total Dublin footprint to about 51,000 square feet. The new data center is plugged into the utility grid by a redundant 4 MVA feed and features 2N UPS set-up and N+1 cooling-system redundancy. It also has the capacity for using free cooling.
“The completion of the project means that we are able to further strengthen Park West’s reputation as a key ICT hub and continue to meet demand for data centre space in the region, from all sectors of the market,” Interxion Ireland MD Tanya Duncan said in a statement, referring to the business and residential campus where the new facility is located. “Our modular build-out approach and lean infrastructure design enables us to offer energy-efficient and cost-effective data center services, both of which are of great appeal to Irish customers.
“The quick uptake of our services has meant that we are already at 50 percent capacity in the new facility, which means we have been able to further enhance the PUE for the data center.”
Interxion entered the Irish market in 2001. According to a company news release, growth in the market is attributable to telecom providers, enterprises and “other technology companies.” The provider operates about 590,000 square feet of data center space in 11 countries around Europe.
