Vendor says product good for high-density, frequently changing configurations

To add flexibility to power delivery options in today’s dynamic data center configurations, Emerson launched a modular busway product, which the company says is easily scalable and is well-suited for high-density environments. Users of the new Liebert MB – at this point launched only in North America – can add new receptacles by adding more busway.

“The Liebert MB busway, an organized, modular distribution system that reduces cable clutter and air obstructions, helps data center managers increase the flexibility and reliability of their data center power distribution, while offering 15 to 30 percent savings in time and installation costs compared to traditional cable and conduit solutions,” said in a statement Charles O’Donnell, VP of engineering for Liebert AC Power, an Emerson Network Power subsidiary.

The product is based on the Siemens XJ-L busway. Emerson says it is suitable for data centers of any size, where configurations change frequently. It can be fastened to the top of a Knurr DCM rack, suspended above any rack or mounted under a raised floor.

The system has three components, including a tap box for a UPS or a PDU input connection to the busway, a three-phase busway and bus plugs. The hot-swappable plugs enable plug-and-play distribution to racks or rack PDU’s. A 10 foot run of busway can accommodate up to 12 plugs.

Available ratings for Liebert MB are 100A, 225A and 400A in single and dual bus configurations. The product works with all Liebert row-based UPS and power distribution products.
